STEPS is a charitable organization that fosters dynamic, inclusive, and resilient communities through one-of-a-kind public art plans, installations, and engagement strategies. We have the relationships, experience, and knowledge to undertake any public art initiative in Canada.
We create some of Canada’s largest and most community-engaged public art initiatives. Together with our partners, we transform urban areas into vibrant public spaces, helping artists, community organizations, BIAs, and developers push creative and technical boundaries — breathing new artistic energy into our public spaces.
At STEPS, we believe that public spaces—as sites of community—are disappearing. It is our mission to validate diverse lived experiences, celebrate local culture, and foster inclusive spaces for people to gather, connect and participate in building vibrant cities.
We have provided public exhibition opportunities to hundreds of artists and civic engagement opportunities to thousands of community members. We have mentored numerous social-service agencies, Councillors, and local businesses on using placemaking initiatives to foster more vibrant communities.
Since 2011, we have facilitated 140 public art installations, engaged 10,000+ community members and 900 youth, and mentored 200+ Artists.
STEPS is a Canada Revenue Agency–registered charity, and welcomes financial contributions to our free community engaged arts and capacity building programming.
