The Town of Lincoln, in partnership with a group of Indigenous Stakeholders, is accepting applications from Indigenous artists and designers, or collaborations between non-Indigenous and Indigenous artists and designers for a park concept design that incorporates public art, landscape elements, and interpretive signage.
The design submission should include a shade structure, with presentation area, paved pathways, garbage/recycling receptacles, and seating features. Elements of the design submission should also include an artistic expression related to the historic and contemporary Indigenous presence in the area.
The goals of the park concept design will be to bring to the forefront the following:
– The Indigenous connection to the local area dating 13,000 years BP
– Relevance of the local area as a site inhabited by the Neutral Nation people
– The importance of recognizing Indigenous presence, both historical and current, in Lincoln
– Fostering a sense of community for Indigenous peoples in Niagara Region by enabling the site to be used as a gathering place for Indigenous community groups for programming, celebration, and education.
The artist fee is $25,000 plus HST. This fee represents 10% of the total project build budget of $250,000. This artist fee includes concept drawings and consultation with Landscape Architectural Designer and Landscape Contractor on final design.
