Mayworks is seeking a guest curator to create a group show exhibiting the work of three artists for the 38th edition of the Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts, scheduled to take place in May 2023.
We are looking for works that speak to contemporary issues at the intersection of labour, social and/or environmental justice and that (re)frame or advance the artistic discourse of the festival.
All art forms are welcome including visual art, music, performance, theatre, dance, poetry, digital and multi-disciplinary works.
Art works that can be presented in outdoor public spaces are welcome.
The curator will propose an exhibition of three artists whose work aligns with our mission to showcase working people’s art, and to promote artists as workers and workers as artists. Mayworks operates within an anti-oppression framework that prioritizes the representation and participation of artists and audiences from equity-seeking groups.
In order to meet our arts funding conditions, at least two of the artists should be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and one of those two should be from the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area.
