The City of Ottawa invites professional artists to submit their qualifications to design, fabricate and install a permanent Gateway artwork for the community of Vanier. This is a two-stage open competition held in accordance with the City of Ottawa Public Art Policy and part of the Vanier + Montreal Road Public Art Plan.

Project Vision
As part of the first phase of the Vanier + Montreal Road Public Art Plan, the gateway will act as a beacon and mark the west entrance into the Vanier neighbourhood. The artwork should reflect the neighbourhood’s unique past, present, and future, and represent Vanier as a creative and resilient sector with a uniquely diverse community. The artwork’s design must be safe for the public and mindful of the site by considering the neighboring Rideau River, and stand out from the new adjacent residential and commercial development. The proposed design must be safe for the public, objects that provide places to hide or places that are obscured from lines of sight to the public art are discouraged. The artwork must be mindful of the site by considering the neighboring environment, bridge, and Rideau River. It should also be cohesive yet distinct from the new adjacent residential and commercial development.
La Ville d’Ottawa invite les artistes professionnels à soumettre une demande de qualification pour la conception, la création et l’installation de l’œuvre d’art permanente Portail dans la communauté de Vanier. Il s’agit d’un concours public en deux étapes, conforme à la Politique d’art public de la municipalité et aux éléments pertinents du Plan d’art public pour le chemin de Montréal et Vanier.

Vision du projet
Dans le cadre de la première phase du Plan d’art public pour le chemin de Montréal et Vanier, le portail servira de point de repère et correspondra à l’entrée ouest du quartier Vanier. L’œuvre doit faire état du passé, du présent et de l’avenir exceptionnels du quartier et en représenter la créativité, la résilience et l’exceptionnelle diversité. La conception de l’œuvre doit être sécuritaire pour le public, être sécuritaires pour le public, donc il est déconseillé d’installer des œuvres qui offrent des endroits où se cacher ou qui sont difficiles à voir. L’oeuvre doit être représentative du site en tenant compte de la rivière Rideau voisine et en s’illustrant parmi les nouveaux aménagements résidentiels et commerciaux attenants.
