City of Waterloo, in partnership with the Uptown Waterloo BIA, are inviting artists to submit Expressions of Interest for the Dominion Lane Art Walk. The aim of this project is to add colour and vibrancy to Uptown Waterloo through the addition of temporary murals. These murals will be painted on the back doors of participating businesses and will take place in conjunction with a City of Waterloo event. The project will connect with the existing mural projects including the Hughes Lane Art Walk and the murals on the Uptown Waterloo Parkade.

The murals should highlight the creativity, innovation, and identity of Waterloo as a community. Expressions of Interest will be reviewed and selected by City of Waterloo and Uptown Waterloo staff and will be matched with a participating business.

Artist fees, inclusive of supplies, will run from $800 to $1000 per installation, dependent on the size and scale of the surface. There are up to seven (7) opportunities available. Installation and painting will take place mid-August.

All murals will be considered temporary and will be evaluated annually for their status. If murals become too worn, vandalized, or no longer meet the aesthetic approval of the business owner or City of Waterloo standards, they will be removed. The artist will be notified before their removal.

For the purposes of this competition, an artist is a person who is critically recognized as an artist, possesses skill, training and/or experience in their artistic discipline, is active in and committed to their art practice, has the ability to work within a collaborative environment, and has demonstrated experience creating art.  Demonstrated experience creating murals in outdoor environments will be considered an asset.
