What is Culture Days?
Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture taking place annually beginning at the end of September. Thousands of events are highlighted across Canada and Mission participates by including local events for residents to enjoy.
Similar to last year, many events will happen through online engagement and digital platforms. However there is hope that some smaller in person events will be able to take place so stay tuned to see what is happening locally.
What is this years’ theme?
IMAGINE
Arts and culture emerged as a lifeline of joy, providing gifts of colour, hope, and reprieve needed to make it through the past year. Collectively, we’re imagining what a post-pandemic world could look like and how we can each contribute to that picture being brighter. Through that lens, Culture Days have chosen RE: IMAGINE as the very apt 2021 theme. RE: IMAGINE signals a positive turning point – the commitment to building tangible change into the future of arts and culture.
Artist in Resident Program
Mission Parks, Recreation & Culture and the Mission Cultural Resources Commission aims to have an Artist in Residence as part of the 2021 Culture Days. The Artist in Residence program will provide an opportunity for an emerging or established artist to develop as an artist and showcase their work for the residents of Mission through Culture Days September 24 – October 24, 2021. This program is open to artists living and/or working in Mission, BC and the surrounding communities. The program is open to artists working in any artistic discipline. Submissions will be received up to 4:00pm on Friday July 16, 2021.
