Coquitlam Heritage is seeking artwork for an upcoming exhibit to be held at Place des Arts in Coquitlam from April 1st – May 19th, 2022. The abundance of natural resources in British Columbia has inspired artists for millennia. While landscapes are often represented for their beauty and grandeur, Extractions will feature work that highlights our use and/or abuse of land-based resources, such as mineral extraction, aquatic and land farming, and logging, both today and historically. The Gold Rushes, in British Columbia created wealth for some, but for others it destroyed eco-systems and generated pollution.

The lumber industry supplies the world with wood, but at what cost to the environment? Fish farms may allow us to avoid the overfishing of wild salmon but what impact do they have on the land and waters around us? Artworks can include, but are not limited to, depictions of natural resource extractions, your own extractions from nature, examinations of resource industry practices, or illustrations of an issue or idea regarding the description above. Mediums can include, but are not limited to, photography, painting, drawing, collage, textile, mixed media, and sculpture.
