A List of Canadian Art Podcasts

In the age where we consume art daily and quickly, an opportunity to slow down and dive deeper into an artists creative process can be hard to find. That is why art podcast are so great; they allow you drop into insightful conversations with artist with very minimal effort. Here’s a short list of homegrown podcast that invites us to (re)discover Canadian artist, creators and their work.

1. Dominionated
Dominionated isn’t just one podcast, it’s a editorial website filled with podcasts, programming and online content. They host three music-based shows, that explores the Canadian music landscape from mainstream to the margins. Discover Canadian artist through their show 20 or 20, short conversations with artists in the format of 20 questions or 20 min which ever comes first. If you want to discover Canadian music outside of your usual streaming platforms, Dominionated offers two other shows in the form of music playlist that bring you new sounds from across the country: for ambient, ethereal sounds great for relaxing and studying plug into Northern Reflections; for the past, new and forgotten tunes – and to get a dose of nostalgia while remaining connected to the new sound and releases – check out Quick before it Melts.

2. Can’t Lit
Are you a book lover and looking for new Canadian books to read? Tune in to the conversation with Jen Sookfong and Dina Lee Buchia and their guests. This is a podcast on all things Canadian literature, celebrities and funny everyday life snippets.

3. Play me
Let the theatre come to you! This CBC podcast lets us experience theatre from the comfort of our home. Created during the pandemic, they found an alternative way to present plays that had been postponed. Each play includes an interview with the playwright. If there’s a play you wished you had seen, you can now listen wherever you are.

3. Ask Miss Chris – Queercorps on  CKUT FM.90.3
Miss Chris, Montreal “it girl”, favourite Haitian blonde bombshell and performance artist from the House of Barbara, answers it all every Monday at 6 PM on 90.3 FM. This show that addresses a diverse issues in the Montreal queer and Trans community. Miss Chris dishes out advice on everything including Clubbing etiquette, putting on events in the city and wellness. We also get to discover music by upcoming Trans and queer artist in Montreal.

3. Momus
Momus created by Canadian author Sky Gooden is an international art critic publication and podcast. Dive into the world of contemporary art by discovering and reflecting with artist and curators. Each episode brings you engaging guest and conversation within the arts world. Momus also has a print publication and a residencies for emerging art critics.
